Monica is one of the background characters in The Fault in Our Stars. She is the ex-girlfriend of Isaac.

In the book, Monica is described as a tall and curvy brunette.
Relationships
Isaac
Isaac and Monica were together and very close. They promised each other to "always" love each other but when she heard that Isaac would go blind, Monica broke up with him in fear and pity. Isaac still loved her very much after the breakup and Monica does not at all appear again in The Fault in Our Stars, but she was mentioned quite a bit after Isaac's eye was removed.
Hazel Grace
Hazel Grace first noticed Monica and Isaac aggressively kissing each other directly after the Support Group. She described Monica as a curvy brunette girl. She heard Monica and Isaac whisper "Always," and seemed interested, asking Augustus Waters what they mean. John Green wrote on his website that Monica's presence was intended to highlight how emphathetic Hazel was and how she tried to understand the reasons behind Monica's decision to break up with Isaac unlike the boys who only blamed her.
Augustus Waters
Augustus Waters seems to have heard about Monica either from Isaac, or conversed with her himself, seeing as he knows the origins of their "Always." phrase, which he explains to Hazel. He doesn't seem to be fazed by Monica and Isaac's displays of love in public.
