Ansel Elgort (born March 14, 1994) is an American actor. He played Tommy Ross in the 2013 horror film Carrie, and co-starred as Caleb Prior in the 2014 dystopian book adaptation, Divergent. He is cast in the role of Augustus Waters in John Green's young adult novel The Fault in Our Stars.

Elgort was born in New York City, New York. His parents are Arthur Elgort, a photographer who has worked for Vogue, and Grethe Barrett Holby, an opera director. His father is of Russian-Jewish descent, while his mother is of English, German, and Norwegian descent. He has two older siblings, Warren, a film editor, and Sophie, a photographer. At the age of nine, his mother took him to try out for the School of American Ballet. Elgort attended Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School and Stagedoor Manor summer camp. He starred in his high school's production of Guys and Dolls. He appeared in the Off-Broadway play, Regrets, by Matt Charman. Elgort started taking acting classes at the age of twelve, and is very excited about all of his given roles. Also, for the previous six years, Elgort has been taking piano lessons. He has also learned tap dancing.

The first movie Ansel Elgort was cast in was Carrie (2013) in which he played Tommy Ross. He is also one of the cast members of the movie Divergent, playing Caleb Prior. Ansel Elgort portrays Augustus Waters in The Fault In Our Stars coming out in Summer 2014.

Ansel will now be seen in Divergent's sequels Insurgent and Allegiant. The fact that Ansel played Shailene's brother in Divergent and lover in The Fault In Our Stars was widely discussed on social media platforms and press meets. When Elgort was initially cast as Augustus he came under intense scrutiny and criticism from fans of the book, especially on twitter, a fact Ansel himself mentioned but later the fans warmed to him and his acting was highly appreciated by critics and moviegoers alike.
